BBC Cymru Wales has announced its new presenting team for its flagship English-language daily news programme Wales Today.
From Monday 4th June, Lucy Owen, Jennifer Jones and Nick Servini will present the main programme at 6.30pm, the lunchtime show and late bulletin on BBC One Wales. They will also deliver special reports on a range on topics, including the NHS’s 70th anniversary this summer.
Lucy, Jen and Nick will present a full picture of the day’s news, sport and weather in studio and on location, hearing from the people making the news and challenging those in power.
Lucy Owen has presented Wales Today for more than ten years and also presents BBC Wales’ consumer programme X-Ray. She says: “I’m really excited about the new line-up and about the changes that mean I will get the chance to be out and about a little more, to cover the stories that really matter to our viewers.”
Jen is a journalist and news presenter for BBC Cymru Wales. She’s worked in both Welsh and English presenting Newyddion on S4C and narrating The Crash Detectives on BBC One Wales. Jen has recently presented Wales Today on a regular basis.
Jen says: “Being one of the main presenters on Wales Today is a huge privilege and I’m delighted to be part of such a hard-working and talented team of journalists.”
Nick Servini will be leaving his role as BBC Wales’ Political Editor to present Wales Today after an exceptionally significant and busy time in politics. Nick was previously BBC Wales Business Correspondent and a reporter on BBC Radio Wales’ Good Morning Wales programme.
He says: “After reporting on politics for Wales Today for many years I’m looking forward to taking up the challenge of presenting the programme. I can’t wait to join Lucy, Jen and the rest of the team on BBC One Wales’ flagship nightly news show.”
Delyth Isaac, BBC Wales Today Editor, says: “I am delighted to announce the new line-up of presenters for Wales Today. Lucy, Jen and Nick have a wealth of experience reporting and presenting. They have a very important job to do in telling the stories of Wales, asking the questions that need to be asked and reaching out to new audiences from all parts of Wales.”
