Top Cast Revealed for BBC Two Drama MotherFatherSon

Further casting has been revealed for MotherFatherSon, Tom Rob Smith’s original eight-part drama for BBC Two.

Already announced, Richard Gere will star alongside Helen McCrory and Billy Howle as the family at the heart of the series.

The trio will be joined by Sarah Lancashire (Kiri, Happy Valley, Last Tango In Halifax) as Angela Howard, a brilliant businesswoman turned MP and Leader of the Opposition. Sinéad Cusack (Call The Midwife, Marcella) and Paul Ready (Motherland, The Terror) will play Maggie and Nick, two renegade journalists from the London-based newspaper which Max (Richard Gere) owns. Pippa Bennett-Warner (Harlots, Sick Note) has been cast as Lauren, a senior executive with the company and trusted adviser to Max.

Danny Sapani (Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) will play Jahan Zakari, the first ever Muslim Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, with Joseph Mawle (Game Of Thrones, Troy: Fall Of A City) as Scott, an enigmatic and damaged figure who Helen McCrory’s character Kathryn becomes entangled with.

Tom Rob Smith, creator, writer and executive producer, says: “This is one of the most exciting casts ever assembled for television”.

MotherFatherSon will be made by BBC Studios Drama London for BBC Two and was commissioned by Patrick Holland, Channel Controller of BBC Two.

James Kent (The Aftermath, Testament Of Youth) will be lead director and the series will be produced by Sharon Bloom (Silent Witness, Rillington Place) and Lisa Osborne (Quirke, Little Dorrit).

Executive Producers are Hilary Salmon for BBC Studios Drama London, Elizabeth Kilgarriff for the BBC, Alan Poul (The Newsroom, Six Feet Under) and Tom Rob Smith.

Filming on MotherFatherSon will commence shortly in London and on location in Spain. BBC Studios will distribute the series internationally.
