WTKR and WGNT in Norfolk have announced that Eric Olsen has been named News Director, overseeing the newsrooms at both stations.
Olsen returns to Tribune from WCTI/WYDO (ABC/FOX), New Bern, NC where he was News Director. Prior to New Bern, Olsen was part of the Tribune family at WGHP (FOX), Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point, NC where he served as Assistant News Director and Executive Producer.
“Eric has successfully lead newsrooms and grown the audience of stations across the country, we are excited to have him lead our teams in Norfolk as we continue to develop our newscasts,” said Hayes.
Olsen is a former News Director at WWAY (ABC) in Wilmington, NC. He has held Executive Producer positions at WBZ (CBS) in Boston and WTOL (CBS) in Toledo, OH. He producing experience includes stops at WAVE (NBC) in Louisville, KY; WKEF (ABC) in Dayton, OH and WMBD (CBS) in Peoria, IL. He began his journalism career as a Photographer at WAND (ABC) in Decatur, Il.
“I’m very thankful for the opportunity to rejoin Tribune. I look forward to getting to know the staff at WTKR/WGNT, and just as importantly the viewers we have the privilege to serve,” Olsen said.
Olsen holds degree in Mass Communications from Illinois State University.
Olsen will begin his new role on November 19th, reporting to Stephen Hayes, General Manager.
