KTLA, Tribune Broadcasting’s Los Angeles television station, is proud to announce its 72nd live telecast of the Rose Parade ranked #1 in all key demos, topping all competitors combined and delivering its highest rating (15.4 HH) since 2013.
KTLA’s coverage of the 130th Rose Parade Presented by Honda entitled “Melody of Life,” continued the long-standing tradition of presenting Southern California’s most watched parade coverage. 2019 coverage began at midnight, January 1, with vintage presentations of the 1989, 1999 and 1979 parades leading into KTLA’s extensive 2019 parade coverage without commercial interruption.
KTLA’s 2019 Live Rose Parade telecast ranked #1 in Households, Total Persons, and other key demos. KTLA averaged 1.2M viewers (P2+) per quarter hour for the live parade coverage…more than double its competitors combined. (KNBC 189K, KMEX 181K, and KABC 175K).
KTLA’s Backstage at the Parade, Countdown to the Parade, and all four parade encores increased their viewership over 2018 with an average +27% in share (Viewers 2+)
Digitally, Rose Parade coverage on KTLA.com also set new records:
> 2019 was the most trafficked Rose Parade day ever with a reported 1.1m page views. Live-stream viewing reported 366,000 views.
> The bandcam, a raw feed highlighting the marching bands, reached more than 600,000 users on Facebook.
> In total, Rose Parade-related posts on the station’s two Facebook pages totalled more than 1,650,000 users reached.
With the best camera positions of any broadcaster, and spectacular aerial views from the Goodyear Airship, KTLA, Tribune Broadcasting’s Los Angeles television station, has been the broadcast home of the Rose Parade since 1948. The 130th Rose Parade Presented by Honda featured 10-time Grammy Award winner, Chaka Khan as Grand Marshal, a Royal Court of seven remarkable young women, floats decorated in flowers and other natural materials, marching bands and equestrian groups along the 5 1/2-mile route down Pasadena’s famed Colorado Boulevard. Emmy Award winning hosts, Leeza Gibbons, Mark Steines and Micah Ohlman returned to bring an enthusiastic play-by-play account of America’s New Year’s Celebration.

This year, KTLA’s HD broadcast was syndicated across the US on Tribune Broadcasting stations (including KSWB/San Diego, KCPQ/Seattle, WGNT/Norfolk, WGHP/Greensboro, WQAD/Davenport, Moline) and distributed nationally on cable via the Hallmark Channel. The station also offered a LIVE simulcast stream of the broadcast on KTLA.com, as well as via FACEBOOK LIVE.
