EMPIRE Magazine was awarded the highly-coveted ‘Chairman’s Award’ and the Silver Award for ‘Cover of the Year’ as voted for by the public at the 39th annual PPA Awards, held this week.
Bauer Publishing UK were shortlisted from nearly 500 entrants nationwide in three other categories, including heat Magazine in ‘Magazine Brand of the Year’, Terri White, Editor-in-Chief, EMPIRE Magazine in ‘Editor of the Year’, Polly Vernon, Grazia in ‘Columnist of the Year’ and MOJO magazine was a finalist in the ‘Cover of the Year’ category.
EMPIRE Magazine Editor-in-Chief Terri White accepted the ‘Chairman’s Award’ by thanking her team for building the readership she described as ‘a tribe, a gang, a community’ and to whom she dedicated the special honour of the night.
EMPIRE, celebrating its 30th anniversary, has been using the special birthday to acknowledge the work of the 30 most adventurous filmmakers from the past three decades in the magazine, online, in the highly successful EMPIRE podcast and with bespoke events as well as debuting its first ever TV cover to honour the ‘cinematic’ Game of Thrones.
PPA Chairman and CEO of TI Media, Marcus Rich commenting on EMPIRE said, “a brand which simply goes from strength to strength and which continues to be the world’s biggest-selling magazine in its field.”
He continued, “These awards have once again set the benchmark for excellence in our industry and continue to champion the people and brands who really push the boundaries, grab readers’ attention, and drive engagement across the board.”
The PPA Awards recognise the prestige of publishing and this year a new and updated set of categories were introduced to better represent the breadth of talent and roles that drive the success of the industry today. This year’s glitzy event was hosted by comedian and one third of Channel 4’s ‘The Last Leg’ presenting panel, Alex Brooker, at Grosvenor House Hotel in the evening of Wednesday 19 June.
