Weather Channel to Provide Content to Quibi

The Weather Channel

The Weather Channel television network and Quibi have reached an agreement for daily weather programming on the mobile platform when it launches in April 2020.

As part of the new deal, The Weather Channel will be the exclusive weather content provider for Quibi’s curated news and information programming, Daily Essentials.

The show will feature short-form national and hyper-localised weather and forecasting stories, as well as leverage The Weather Channel’s Emmy Award-winning Immersive Mixed Reality to help audiences understand how the weather will impact them. Through this partnership, The Weather Channel television network will expand its daily millennial audience and deliver critical information during severe weather conditions.

Recognised as the TV News Brand of the Year 9 years in a row by The Harris Poll, and one of the top 20 Most Loved Brands in America as recognised by Morning Consult, The Weather Channel brings 37 years of trusted storytelling and forecast excellence to Quibi to help its platform’s audience understand weather and the science behind it.

Daily Essentials are a unique content offering from Quibi — in addition to its scripted “Lighthouse” and unscripted “Alternative” shows. Curated daily into minutes-long bites of news, entertainment and inspiration, Quibi’s Daily Essentials will quickly give viewers everything they need to know.

“Our Daily Essentials partnership with Quibi is an exciting way for The Weather Channel to expand our reach to a millennial audience, who are perpetually curious about the weather and science that impact their lives. As the nation’s leading weather network we share that curiosity and are excited to be partnering with such a cutting edge platform as Quibi,” said Tom O’Brien, president of The Weather Channel television network.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Quibi to bring vital weather information and storytelling to Quibi users,” said Nora Zimmett, chief content officer and EVP for The Weather Channel television network. “At The Weather Channel, we are committed to equipping the public with the critical information they need to plan ahead and understand the weather around them.”

The show will be available seven days a week, only on Quibi, when the platform launches in April 2020.
