CTV was Canada’s most-watched channel on election night, with its live election special reaching 10.6 million Canadians.
CTV News’ 2019 federal election special was Canada’s definitive choice for election coverage last night, according to overnight data from Numeris, attracting an average audience of 1.6 million viewers from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. ET on CTV, CTV News Channel, and BNN Bloomberg.
During the head-to-head coverage window from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. ET, federal election coverage on CTV achieved a 33% advantage over CBC main network (1.1 million) and had more than three times the audience of Global (470,000). Audiences for Monday night’s special peaked at 2.9 million viewers at 10:11 p.m. ET, minutes after CTV News declared an election win for Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party at 10:06 p.m. ET.
Helmed by CTV NATIONAL NEWS’ Chief Anchor and Senior Editor Lisa LaFlamme, and bringing Canadians up-to-the second results and reactions from a vast team of more than 60 correspondents reporting from across the country, CTV News’ live special was the most-watched television program last night in Canada, reaching 10.6 million unique Canadian viewers.
In addition, CP24’s live election special guided GTA viewers through the results, with live reports from reporters stationed across the region. The CP24 special reached 1.6 million unique viewers from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. ET, and peaked with 547,000 viewers at 10:32 p.m. ET.
Powered by the network’s expansive live coverage and election results, CTV News’ digital platforms were the prime online destination for comprehensive election updates, setting a new single-day record for visits, and more than doubling CTV News’ daily traffic average. CTV News generated 95% more page views than the daily average, and the live special powered video viewing to 78% more than the daily average.
Altogether, Bell Media’s 2019 federal election coverage reached 12 million unique Canadian viewers on Monday night, across CTV, CTV News Channel, CP24, and BNN Bloomberg.
