KRCW-TV to Launch Morning News Programmes

Nexstar Media Group

Nexstar will launch a live two-hour local morning news show on KRCW-TV, “Portland’s CW,” the Company’s recently acquired television station in Portland, Oregon.

Debuting February 3rd, “KOIN News AM Extra” will air weekdays from 7 AM to 9 AM, and offer a mix of local news, weather, sports and traffic, as well as a variety of lifestyle features focused on living in the greater Portland area. The broadcast will add ten hours per week of local news content to KRCW-TV’s programming schedule, nearly doubling the total number of news hours delivered by the station each week to communities across Oregon and southwest Washington.

“Nexstar’s television stations are deeply committed to serving their local communities with informative, engaging, and exclusive local content,” said Tim Busch, President of Nexstar Broadcasting. “Following our acquisition of KRCW-TV, Nexstar’s goal was to provide more local programming to the viewers of the greater Portland area and southwest Washington. Now, with the success of KRCW-TV’s most recently added primetime news, we are extremely proud to be delivering even more high-quality news programming from KOIN-TV, with the launch of KOIN News AM Extra. This new local programming will strengthen KRCW-TV’s connection to the area’s viewers and advertisers, and enable KRCW-TV to broaden its digital offerings to its consumers.”

Independently produced by KOIN-TV (CBS), Nexstar’s sister station in Portland, KOIN News AM Extra will feature 20 minutes of commercial-free local news, weather and traffic coverage at the beginning of every show. The new broadcast will offer in-depth interviews with local decision-makers and community leaders from around the region and unique weekly segments such as Move it Monday, Tech Tuesday, Wallet Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday, and Foodie Friday.

KOIN News AM Extra will be anchored by the trusted KOIN-TV news anchor team of Ken Boddie, Jenny Hansson and Emily Burris, with weather and traffic updates from KOIN-TV morning meteorologist Kelley Bayern and KOIN traffic reporter Carly Kennelly. Already well-known to local TV news viewers, Mr. Boddie, Ms. Hansson, and Ms. Bayern, are experienced journalists, currently anchoring KOIN-TV’s 4:30 AM, 5 AM, 6 AM and 12 PM newscasts. Ms. Burris most recently anchored weekend newscasts at 5 PM, 6 PM, 10 PM, and 11 PM.

“On the heels of launching an exclusive full hour prime-time local newscast last fall on KRCW-TV, we are thrilled to further expand our local news programming with ten additional weekly hours of morning news and lifestyle programming for our viewers,” said Patrick Nevin, Vice President and General Manager of KOIN-TV and KRCW-TV. “Offering a local news alternative to viewers in the morning, at a time period predominately filled with network news, enables KRCW-TV to connect with local viewers in a new and unique way and deepens our engagement with the local community and our marketing and advertising partners. We’re all very excited to launch KOIN News AM-Extra next week.”
