BBC Radio Ulster is opting for a relaxing end to the weekend, with a new show from Steven Rainey, “The Cruise”.
Beginning on Sunday 16th February at 4pm, over the course of six weeks Steven Rainey will navigate listeners through some of the finest soft rock and yacht rock classics.
It’s a chance to forget your cares, and ‘sail away’ with Steven on some of the smoothest grooves the world has ever known.
Yacht rock is the tongue-in-cheek name for a style of music which began in the early 70s, predominantly on the west coast of America.
Aspirational, expertly played and performed, and absolutely timeless, this type of music has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years, with artists like Michael McDonald, Toto, Steely Dan, Vulfpeck and Toro Y Moi, and many more, finally getting the credit they were due.
Steven Rainey said: “For me, it’s an absolute pleasure to present the show, bringing listeners a taste of some of my favourite music, as well as creating a bit of a vibe for us all to enjoy on a late Sunday afternoon. Alongside the music, there’ll be plenty of sound effects and atmosphere, as I attempt to bring us all on the finest ship to ever sail the airwaves.
