BBC Cymru Wales will be broadcasting the Welsh Government’s daily news conference live on BBC One Wales, from Monday 30th March.
The daily press conferences – between 12.30 and 1pm – are convened for the First Minister, Ministers and Public Health professionals to update on the current Coronavirus situation.
The press conference will also be repeated each afternoon on BBC Radio Wales, as part of Gareth Lewis’s programme after 4pm as well as extracts and analysis on Radio Cymru’s Dros Ginio.
The announcement comes as BBC Wales sees unprecedented demand for its news output. More than 700,000 viewers are tuning into BBC Wales Today each day with the Newyddion team on S4C also attracting their biggest audiences of the year. Last week, BBC Wales’s online news services attracted millions of users while BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Cymru are seeing a demand for up-to-date news, information and advice.
Director of BBC Cymru Wales, Rhodri Talfan Davies, says: “These are unprecedented times as the country responds to the greatest challenge we’ve faced in generations. And as you would expect the demand for news and information has been remarkable – with people tuning into BBC news, radio and online services in extraordinary numbers.
“Adding the Welsh Government’s daily news conference to our output means we’ll be bringing the very latest updates from Wales to our audiences each and every day, alongside BBC Wales Today, radio bulletins and daily news programmes as well as a host of online content.”
Rhodri Talfan Davies also paid tribute to BBC Wales’s editorial teams for their commitment and hard work during the current crisis. He said: “Delivering all this would be impossible without the resilience and commitment of our production teams – and I am enormously grateful to them all. As you would expect, all our efforts right now our focused on sustaining these critical news and radio services while safeguarding the welfare and safety of our staff.
“I know the companionship and information these services are providing to hundreds of thousands of people across Wales is priceless right now,” he added.
