Univision will bring viewers a comprehensive slate of Holy Week celebrations and traditions starting on April 5th, with Palm Sunday Mass from the Vatican.
Univision will air the Palm Sunday Mass from St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican with Pope Francis, followed by morning show “Despierta América” (Wake Up America) covering latest news and major events of the week.
Univision will also air the Easter Sunday Mass from the Vatican Basilica, without the presence of the faithful, on April 12 at 8 a.m. ET, followed by a “Despierta América” special featuring a recap of the culmination of the Holy Week and late-breaking news at 9 a.m. ET/PT.
On Easter Sunday, the Univision Network will air biblical movies “Hijo de Dios” (Son of God) at 8p.m. ET/PT and “Jesús, María, y José” on 12p.m. ET/PT.
In addition, on Saturday, April 11, Univision will air “Tierra Santa, donde todo empezó” (Holy Land, Where Everything Began) (7 p.m. ET /PT and 6 p.m. CT) a special filmed in 2017 in which Univision Noticias’ award-winning journalist María Antonieta Collins traveled to the Holy Land, the cradle of Christianity, where thousands of pilgrims convened.
The special takes viewers on an extraordinary journey to the most sacred places that bore witness to key events in the life of Jesus Christ. The one-hour program will include interviews with Fray Artemio Vítores, a Franciscan Father in Jerusalem, and Father Juan Solana, director of the Magdala Project and Chargé of the Holy See for the Pontifical Institute Notre Dame of Jerusalem.
UniMás will also offer special programming during Holy Week, airing some of the best biblical dramas.
Among the movies and series featured on Univision’s sister network are: “La Reina Ester” (Queen Esther), a miniseries about the life of Esther, Queen of Persia beginning Monday, April 6, at 12:00 p.m. ET/PT; “María” a series that tells the story of Virgin Mary, Mother of God, starring Paz Vega, premiering Tuesday, April 7, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT; and a religious movie about the life of Moses, the Prince of Egypt, “Los Diez Mandamientos” (The Ten Commandments) on Saturday, April 11, at 7 p. m. ET/PT.
