Michael Enright will step down from hosting CBC Radio One’s “The Sunday Edition” at the end of this season to create a new, unique one-hour radio program.
Enright’s last day of hosting the beloved weekly deep-dive will be Sunday, June 28th, with CBC redeveloping the Sunday morning time slot this fall featuring a new host.
“Hosting the The Sunday Edition for 20 years has been the greatest experience and challenge in my career as a journalist which dates from 1962,” said Enright. “I have been so lucky in interviewing some of the great figures of our time, travelling the world to bring home exciting stories but most importantly, creating a binding relationship with thousands of listeners.”
Enright has hosted “The Sunday Edition” for its entire 20 year-broadcast run, continuing to surprise listeners with an unconventional variety of topics, a sharp interview style that cuts to the heart of many issues, and a dose of humour to balance his seasoned perspective on world events.
“We’ve been fortunate to have Michael share his unique voice and expertise as the host of “The Sunday Edition” among other flagship programs over the years. Listeners have always responded to his quick wit and insightful interviewing style. I can’t wait to hear what he has to say next,” said Cathy Perry, Executive Director of Current Affairs. “In these extraordinary times, radio has never been more important to Canadians. We look forward to working with Michael to develop his new program, and add fresh perspective and energy to Sunday mornings with an updated show.”
Prior to “The Sunday Edition”, Enright hosted and originated several national programs for CBC Radio including This Country in the Morning, This Morning, and As It Happens, which he co-hosted for ten years. Early in his career he worked for top publications such as Time and Maclean’s, was a political writer for The Toronto Star, and a Washington correspondent for The Globe and Mail. His many honours include the Order of Canada, a Southam Fellowship for Journalism, and honorary doctorates from York University in Ontario, and Memorial University in Newfoundland.
CBC Radio was recently honoured with the 2020 Broadcaster of the Year award at the 2020 New York Festivals® Radio Awards. “The Sunday Edition” presents an eclectic blend of conversation, documentaries, personalities and music every Sunday at 9am ET (9:30 NT) on CBC Radio One and the CBC Listen app.
