The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation will donate $5,000 to The Annie L. Dawson Foundation on behalf of WJW-TV (FOX8), the Nexstar television station serving the Cleveland, OH, area.
The Dawson Foundation was established in 2007, and provides college scholarships and life-skills training for students from low-income households.
The Dawson Foundation was created by FOX8 morning anchor Wayne Dawson and his brother, William, as a way of honoring the personality, passion and persistence of their mother Annie L. Dawson. Over the last 13 years, the foundation has awarded dozens of scholarships to students attending a variety of prestigious universities across the country.
“Wayne and his brother are deeply involved in public service to the greater Cleveland community,” said Paul Perozeni, Vice President and General Manager of FOX8. “The Annie Dawson Foundation provides tremendous opportunities for students who might otherwise not be able to attend college—in many cases these scholarships are the difference-maker. We’re extremely proud of Wayne and the commitment he makes to these students. Giving back to the communities served by Nexstar in 114 markets across the country is core to the company’s mission and we are proud to make this donation on behalf of FOX8, Nexstar Media Group, and all of Nexstar’s 13,000 employees.”
Commenting on the $5,000 donation, Wayne Dawson said, “The Dawson Foundation was founded on the principals that our mother lived by and taught to those she loved. First and foremost, she was a stickler for education. She recognized the importance of having an education and that it should be taken seriously. She also stressed setting goals and believed that working toward those goals was the key to success. My brother and I are extremely grateful to FOX8 and the Nexstar Foundation for this generous donation—it will be of great help to the students we assist.”
The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organisations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business. The foundation was originally established in 1958 and it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
