The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation has announced that it will donate $5,000 to The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, on behalf of WNCT 9 On Your Side.
The donation is part of WNCT’s month-long series, “Caring for Carolina Non-Profit Spotlight,” featured on “The East’s Daily Download”, the station’s locally produced lifestyle program.
The donation will be used to help The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina continue providing services to families suffering from hunger and food insecurity throughout central and eastern North Carolina.
The Food Bank was founded in 1980 and provides services in 34 of North Carolina’s 100 counties.
Working collaboratively with 900 non-profit partner agencies, government programs, as well as public and private funders, the organization provides more than 76 million meals to individuals and families in the area who cannot meet their basic food needs. The Food Bank collects donated, allocated or purchased food and distributes it to local non-profit agencies such as food panties, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and meal programs for seniors and children.
Acting as a central hub for food distribution, The Food Bank provides nutritious meals to approximately 760,000 food insecure people in central and eastern North Carolina.
“This generous gift will provide the equivalent of 25,000 meals to our friends and neighbors, many of whom are struggling due to the impact of the pandemic,” said George Young, Eastern Regional Branch Director for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.

Commenting on the donation, Amy Doane, Vice President and General Manager of WNCT, said, “The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina provides a vital service in this area of the state—at times serving as the only means of food for thousands of individuals and families, many of them seniors and children.
“We have a long history of working with The Food Bank and helping them to collect food and donations to address food insecurity in the region.

The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media Group Inc. and its subsidiaries do business.
The foundation was originally established in 1958 and it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
