Mediacorp Announces Singapore’s New Years Eve Special

Let’s Celebrate 2021

Let’s Celebrate 2021, Mediacorp’s New Year countdown show, hosted by 987 DJs Sonia Chew and Joakim Gomez, will feature riveting acts, interactive elements as well as fireworks and light displays for an exuberant, unforgettable evening.

Let’s Celebrate 2021

• A showcase of the best of our local talents in music, as well as exciting collaborations with fashion designers and dance choreographers from the larger creative ecosystem. A collaborative highlight to look out for is the debut performance of “Better”, a brand-new festive theme song.
• An entertaining artiste line-up featuring chart-topping international acts, with opportunities for viewers to be involved in the show via dance video submissions and countdown videos on social media.
• Spectacular “live” shots of fireworks from the heartlands and the “Shine a Light” display beamed “live” from The Promontory at Marina Bay at midnight.
• Special New Year messages from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, underscoring the community-rallying spirit of the show.

On this year’s celebration, Tham Loke Kheng, CEO, Mediacorp said: “Let’s Celebrate is an annual highlight that’s all the more special this year, as we rally Singaporeans in looking forward to a better 2021.

“Through an eclectic showcase of the best of local talent, creative collaborations and international acts, we look to spread positivity and hope as we all join together to usher in the new year and all the exciting possibilities it holds.”

In keeping with Mediacorp’s continued commitment to provide a platform for Singapore talent to showcase their craft, Let’s Celebrate 2021 will include an electrifying ensemble of established and next-gen homegrown hotshots, such as Singapore’s pride and accomplished rapper Yung Raja, dance-pop diva RRILEY and indie ingénue Shye.

Not to be missed is the rousing rendition of “Better”, Mediacorp’s new finger-snapping festive theme song. This energetic earworm features the velvety vocals of soulful singer-songwriter Gareth Fernandez, Vasantham Star 2005 champ and Kollywood music producer Shabir, promising multi-talented prodigy JJ Neo, and social media star Hashy Yusof.

Audiences can keep an ear out for the song when it premieres via 987 on 25 November at 5pm, before its subsequent release on meLISTEN and other major streaming services from 7pm onwards.

Leading local acts aside, the show will also feature guest performances by a dazzling mix of international artistes. These include the number one hit-making heartthrob Jason Derulo, nostalgic nineties fan favourite Ronan Keating, TikTok sensation Benee, former Aussie busker-turned-breakout star Tones and I, and intimate confessional crooner Jeremy Zucker.

Let’s Celebrate 2021 also provides a platform to showcase collaborations with talents within the wider creative ecosystem, ranging from fashion designers to dance choreographers. Pop powerhouse Tabitha Nauser will perform swathed in Singapore-born brand Dzojchen.

She will be flanked by a stylish squad of eight up-and-coming artistes, who will be donning designer wear by Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts alumni Annie Chua, Darren Loh and Max Tan.

Meanwhile, RRILEY’s dynamic dance number will be choreographed by industry veteran Wawan; with Jessica Lim orchestrating the grooves and moves for Shye and Tabitha Nauser’s performances, accompanied by her dancers from J Platform Dance Studio.

That’s not all. To amplify audience engagement, viewers will be invited to post social media snippets of their dance moves to Jason Derulo’s “Savage Love”, with selected submissions being incorporated into Jason Derulo’s segment on the countdown show (see Annex B for dance challenge mechanics).

During the show, audiences will also be encouraged to partake in a nation-wide virtual countdown by recording and sharing their Countdown Moment on social media with the hashtag #SGTogetherABetter21.
