Scala Radio Launches Station Dedicated to Women Composers

Scala Radio

From the 6th of January 2022 listeners will be able to listen to a station dedicated to women composers as part of the stations available to Scala Radio Premium subscribers.

A first of its kind, the music will focus solely on women classical composers featuring artists such as Clara Schumann, Amy Beach and Teresa Carreño as well as more modern talent like Dai Wei and Arlenne Sierra.

Scala presenter Penny Smith said “There are many exceptional women composers out there to listen to and discover in the classical genre. By launching this dedicated station Scala Radio is shining a light on these talented women and the music they have produced”

Soprano Gabriella Di Laccio, Founder of Donne said: “It is only through collaboration with others who share our values and ambitions that we can create real change. Music is a powerful instrument of social change and should reflect the diverse richness of all artists.

“We are absolutely thrilled to continue our partnership with Scala Radio and work together to inspire more listeners and create more impact.”

This new station forms part of Scala Radio’s ongoing relationship with Donne, Women in Music which was originally formed in Spring 2021.

Donne, Women in Music is a charitable foundation that aims to make a positive change and readdress the gender inequality within the music industry.
The charity celebrates, advances and amplifies women in music so that they are seen, heard and appreciated for their talent, as well as leaving a legacy of inspiration for future generations.

Scala Radio’s Women Composers station will be available online from 6th January.
