Octavio Valdez has joined Univision Los Angeles as anchor of its late-night newscast Noticias 34 a las 11 p.m.
Valdez joins Andrea Gonzalez at the anchor desk. Univision 34 Los Angeles is the No. 1 station in the market for local news, regardless of language, according to Nielsen.
Valdez joins the Los Angeles Univision34 news team as anchor of the 11 p.m. newscast alongside Andrea Gonzalez, Yara Lasanta and Diana Alvarado. Valdez is part of the new generation of Mexican journalists dedicated to content analysis and debate of the origin and use of information, its actions, as well as its impact on the community on a day-to-day basis.

In his short time in Los Angeles, Valdez interviewed Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District Albert M. Carvalho, and Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate Rick Caruso. Valdez has also investigated current affairs impacting California, such as the drought and the water crisis the state is experiencing and the shortage of Spanish speaking doctors in the state and its effect on the community.
Valdez’s career is supported by more than 10-years of work in different aspects of media. His beginnings were in radio both in college and commercial broadcast, as well as a reporter and host for Televisa in his native Michoacán. In Mexico City he led the 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. news spaces for Foro TV, the most important 24/7 news channel in Mexico. Octavio also worked as anchor of Noticieros Televisa for the Canal de las Estrellas.
He received his degree in Communication Sciences and a master’s degree in Institutional Image from the Vasco de Quiroga University in Morelia. He also studied journalism and corporate advertising, as well as political communication at the Complutense University of Madrid.
Valdez extensively covered Mexican presidential elections, state electoral elections, as well as several natural disasters and special events. He has also been a contributor to MVS Radio and Forbes LATAM.
