The Times has announced that Sir Niall Ferguson has joined the newspaper as a contributing writer.
He will produce 12 exclusive articles each year, sharing his insights on history, politics, economics, and global issues.
Sir Niall Ferguson is a highly respected historian and author. He has written 16 well-known books and created many television documentaries. His latest book, Doom: The Politics of Catastrophe, looks at the history of disasters and their impact on today’s society.
One of his famous works includes a Channel 4 TV series focused on the British Empire. The book that accompanied the series is Empire: The Rise and Demise of the British World Order. It became a bestseller in both the UK and US. Its follow-up, Colossus: The Rise and Fall of the American Empire, brought him significant recognition. He earned a spot on Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people.
Tony Gallagher, editor of The Times, stated that Sir Niall Ferguson’s extensive knowledge impacts global discussions. His influence in history and academia is significant. He expressed excitement about having Ferguson on board and confidence that readers will appreciate his insights.
Sir Niall Ferguson said: “I’m delighted to be returning to the fold of The Times, five years after leaving my weekly Sunday Times column. A monthly essay will be a perfect opportunity to put the frenetic changes we see in the world around us into historical perspective, beginning with the frenetic opening weeks of Donald Trump’s historic second term.”
Sir Niall Ferguson has received several awards. These include the Hayek Prize for Lifetime Achievement. He also won the Columnist of the Year award from the British Press Awards in 2018.
Currently, he is the Milbank Family Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He is also a senior faculty fellow at Harvard’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.
