NPR President and CEO Katherine Maher has appointed Darryl Walston as Senior Vice President of NPR’s People Team.
He will report to NPR’s Chief Financial Officer, Daphne Kwon.
Maher praised Walston, saying, “He has been an essential partner since I joined NPR. He stepped up to lead as interim Chief People Officer for an entire year when we needed it most. His strategic thinking and calm demeanor during tough times have gained him respect from his peers and support from his colleagues. I am excited to recognize his contributions.”
Walston expressed his commitment to NPR’s mission, noting, “Our goal to inform the public relies on our dedicated staff. I am honored to lead the innovative People Team and to support my coworkers at NPR. It’s important to create an environment where they can thrive and advance in their careers.”
Walston has over 15 years of HR experience across various industries, both for-profit and nonprofit. He has acted as a trusted partner and strategic advisor, aligning talent strategies with business needs. Before joining NPR, he held HR positions at The Aspen Institute, Lockheed Martin, and Discovery Inc. There, he managed significant organizational projects related to talent management and workforce planning. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business from Bowie State University and holds a Strategic HR Business Partner Certification from the Human Capital Institute.
