Three new presenters will start hosting the Friday Early Breakfast show on BBC Radio 1 in February.
They will rotate each month in this time slot, which runs from 5am to 7am.
Dan Draper, Alice Hopkins, and Cloe Lee will take turns leading the show, which first aired in January 2021. All three debuted on Radio 1 during the 2024 festive season. Their opportunity came through the Christmas Takeover initiative. Aled Haydn Jones led the initiative to highlight new talent.
In February, Dan Draper from Harlow will be the first to host this slot. Dan currently runs a weekly show on Riverside Radio and also has a podcast. He was part of Radio 1 Anthems during the Christmas period.
Dan shared his excitement: “I had a fantastic time hosting Radio 1 Anthems over Christmas, and I’m thrilled to host Early Breakfast every Friday in February. Get ready for lots of energy and laughs to kick off your Fridays!”
In March, Alice Hopkins from Edinburgh will take over. She has previously hosted shows on BBC Radio London and other local stations. These include BBC Introducing. She also featured on Radio 1 Anthems during the festive period.
Alice expressed her joy: “I’m so excited to wake people up with some Scottish chat in March! Hosting Friday Early Breakfast has been a dream of mine since it started for new presenters. I can’t wait!”
Cloe Lee, a 25-year-old from Brentwood, will host in April. Besides her job in social media, she has presented shows on an independent radio station. She even had her own queer country show. She also took part in Radio 1 Anthems at Christmas.
Cloe said: “From secretly listening to Radio 1 during French class to making my own jingles in Year 4, I’ve always wanted to be on the radio! It’s a dream to be back on Radio 1. I had a blast at Christmas and can’t wait to be on every Friday morning in April! Let’s do this!”
Aled Haydn Jones, the Head of Radio 1, commented: “Developing new talent is central to our mission at Radio 1. The Friday Early Breakfast show has played an important role since we began in 2021. I’m excited to see what these three presenters will bring to their shows.”
